S.E.D. 4-H members, clubs, and counties are encouraged to get engaged and participate in the NEW Spirit Stick Contest for bragging rights!  Results will be tallied and the spirit stick will be awarded at 2019 State Roundup at the District Rally.  Everyone can participate in the Service Projects and teens 13 and up can participate in the events!  



4-H members who will be 14 by September 1, 2018 and meet all other requirements are encouraged to consider running for District Office!  For the 2018-19 year, there will be 7 positions available!!!  Check out the application at the link above.  Applications are due September 7 to the District Office but check with your county Extension office for county due date.
 NEW!!!   2017 Dutch Oven Cookbook -- Recipes from the 2017 Contest.  Thanks to all the teams for sharing their recipes.  Please note that not all recipes provide a cooking temperature, number of coals to use, etc.  If you need assistance, contact the county who provided the recipe!

SE District Youth Action Conference (formerly DLC)  -- October 17-19, 2018

DLC is for 4-H'ers age 13 - 19 who want to learn more about leadership and develop life skills that will help them throughout their life. This event is held during Fall Break.  Youth will also have an opportunity to do a service project in the Ardmore area during YAC!  Come ready for a few days of fun with your 4-H friends, honing your leadership skills, and giving back to others!  

SE Volunteers:  UNITE!  District Volunteer Training (November 2018)

The District Parent/Volunteer Committee has re-vamped training!  Four trainings will be held across the District in November.  Reduce your travel time and attend the session nearest you. Come and receive your Working with Minors/Title VII/IX and one more training credit in one night!  See flyer (linked above) for dates, locations, the schedule and topics to be addressed at each site.  The event is FREE! Dinner and a notebook will be provided.  


Expressive Arts is the 4-H project that is showcased at the Share The Fun Contest.  This event is for Senior entries only and entries must qualify from the County level to compete. 

NEW!!!  new categories have been developed for the SE District Share The Fun Contest!  Any number of youth may participate in each act.  Counties may send 4 acts to District.  The new categories are:  Dance, Instrumental, Theater, and Vocal!  For more details, click on the link above!


Public Speaking

4-H youth are encouraged to prepare and present a speech at the Public Speaking Contest!  Illustrated talks, Demonstrations, PowerPoint Presentations -- you pick the style and get involved! Famous Persons Contest is also moving back to this event!  

Shooting Sports 

One of the most popular among 4-H members.  Youth must pass the hunter education course before they can participate in this project.  Check out this page to learn more about the District contests held each year!

Livestock Judging 

The SE District hosts an invitational Livestock Judging Contest open to any 4-H'er in the State.   The contest will be held in Johnston County at the Fairgrounds.   Teams of 3 or 4 are encouraged but individuals may also participate.  Pre-registration is requested so that we know how many to prepare for. 

Dutch Oven Contest 

Teams of three 4-H'ers can team up and create three dishes using dutch oven skills.  

Food Showdown 

The Food Showdown is patterned after the Iron Chef TV program and involves teams of three youth.  The senior team is provided specific ingredients and have 40 minutes to develop a recipe, create the dish, and prepare a presentation.  Juniors have 25 minutes.  A common pantry is also available to allow teams to use their creativity even further to turn their recipe into an amazing culinary treat!

FCS Skill-A-Thon and Consumer Judging Contests 
Back by popular demand, two contests will continue in the SE District in 2018!  Both events are state contests.  Participating in these events on the District level will provide youth opportunities to practice and improve their skills.  Awards will be given for both contests.  Events will be held in the afternoon following the Food Showdown.

Horse Show 

The District 4-H Horse Show is open to members 9-19. It is held in Ardmore at the Hardy Murphy Colsieum. This is a two day show.  Contestants may come in on Sunday night for a practice run for one of the Ranch classes.  Add Sunday night stalls, RV, and the practice run to your registration.  Registration will be due April 30, 2018.


Animal Science Field Day 

Whether you have a livestock project or not, you can take advantage of this educational field day and learn about livestock species and much more!  The District Animal Science Field Day is open to all youth 9-19, parents and leaders. It's primary focus is to teach youth more about the animal nutrition, feeds, ethics, equipment I.D., Animal Health, and the facts about agriculture

FCS Skills Day 

Opportunity for youth ages 9-12 to participate in workshops to learn about the FCS Skill-A-Thon and Food Showdown. 


Leadership Apps 4 Life -- Leadership L.E.A.P. and 4-H P.E.A.C.E. combined event 

This event is for 4-H members ages 11-18!  The one day leadership training coordinated and conducted by the SE District Officers and SEDAT,  is sure to be a day filled with fun workshops, a great speaker, and more!  Come and be ready to jump start your leadership potential by learning from current teen leaders!
