The public is invited to join Payne County Extension as we celebrate 100 Years of Extension on Friday, April 25, 2014, 5-8pm at the Territorial Plaza in Perkins.

The Smith-Lever Act, which formally established the national Cooperative Extension Service was signed May 14, 1914 by President Woodrow Wilson. The Act provided funding through land-grant universities such as Oklahoma State University to expand vocational, agricultural and home demonstration programs. Langston University also has Extension as part of its mission.

Payne County’s Centennial Celebration will offer county residents the opportunity to:

· Purchase home-made pie baked by Payne County’s OHCE clubs.

· Enjoy hot dogs served by our 4-H clubs.

· Participate in demonstrations and get entered to win an iPad!

· Take guided tours of  the historic buildings in the Plaza. (

· Have your picture made with OSU’s mascot, Pistol Pete on the front porch of the real Frank Eaton’s home.

· Win big $ for your charity in the home-made ice cream making contest! (Contact the Extension office to enter your organization or civic group in the competition.)
