OKMULGEE COUNTY April, May, June 2010 Livestock Shows are over and it won’t be long before we start nominating for the Fall!! We have several camps lined up for this summer, so please read all of this newsletter. We will NOT be mailing out the newsletter anymore. I will send it out via e-mail and post it on our Okmulgee County web page. If you have someone that does not have access to e-mail, please have them contact the office and those will be mailed. ARCHERY CONTEST The NE District Archery contest took place this past Saturday, April 3 in Kellyville and our Junior team placed 2nd . Phillip Noland also won 1st in the re-curve contest. Congratulations to everyone!! The state contest will be coming up in Oklahoma City and I’m sure Okmulgee County will be well represented. VOLUNTEER CONFERENCE AND SPEECH CONTEST This year we are trying a little something different. The Volunteer conference that is usually held in Jenks in January has been combined with the NE District Speech contest. These combined events will be held at the Okemah High School on May 1. The 4-Hers can participate in the speech contest while parents attend the volunteer conference. I would like to encourage all leaders and parents to attend this conference. It will give you some insight into 4-H and many new ideas. I will have the forms available soon. NE DISTRICT ARCHERY CAMP The NE District Archery camp will be held June 9th and 10th at Pickens Lake on Lake Eufaula. Registration and money will be due in Okmulgee County on May 12th. Many of you have called your children in and that is great. Just remember when the registration fee is due. This is a one night camp and we are looking at a capacity of 100 or more kids. Archery has been a HUGE success in the NE District and we are looking forward to a great camp. LEADERSHIP ROCKS!!! This is a new camp that will teach Leadership, teamwork and service learning to 4-Hers 13 and up. It was designed for current officers and any potential officers. It is a one night camp that will be held at NSU on June 15th and 16th. Cost is $40. I would love to take several officers and potential officers to this training. KEE GEE CAMP This is the one that all of the Seniors have been waiting for. Set aside June 7th and 8th for the fun float trip down the Illinois River. We usually leave Okmulgee around 9:00 am arrive at the camp, eat a quick lunch and leave for the float trip. The next morning we do leadership classes that last until noon and leave to come home. I’ll let everyone know the cost as soon as I can. JUNIOR CAMP We didn’t forget about the Juniors. If you have been to this camp in the past, you know how much fun we have. I don’t have much information on Junior camp, but I do know the dates are June 16th, 17th and 18th. Please mark your calendars and we will take a group of Juniors (and seniors, if you want to be a camp counselor) to Lake Pickens on Eufaula Lake. FISHING CLINIC Every year the 4-H along with Wal-Mart and the Okmulgee Lake host a Fishing Clinic for children with Special Needs. This year it will be on June 12th at the Okmulgee Lake Handicapped Dock. PLEASE come out and help!! The 4-H kids are asked to help with registration, bait hooks, take fish off of the hooks, serve the lunch and take pictures. In the past we have had up to 90 people present for this event, so as you can see, we need a lot of help. This is a great Citizenship project for your Record Book. NE DISTRICT HORSE SHOW Cindy Kuntz has been doing a great job with the “horse people”. If you are planning to attend the NE District Horse Show in Claremore, you need to get your paper work in to the Extension Office ASAP. I will be mailing everything on April 12.
