OSU Extension Offers “Home Canning” Workshop

 

            As gardens around the state are getting started, it’s time to think about how to preserve your harvest.   Oklahoma County OSU Extension is offering a “Home Canning” workshop to teach you how to preserve low acid fruits and vegetables in a pressure canner.  The workshop will cost $25.00 and will be held at the OSU Cooperative Extension Conference Center located at 2500 N.E. 63rd Street, Oklahoma City from 9 am to 1:00 pm on April 12, 2017.

“There are many misconceptions about canning and some people are confused on the correct way to do this.  Canning is a great way to extend your summer harvest but it’s very important to learn the correct way so you aren’t getting friends and family sick”, stated Amanda Ford, Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service Family and Consumer Sciences Educator and Registered Dietitian.  The workshop will be taught by Dr. Barbara Brown, OSU Extension Food Specialist.  This workshop will be a hands-on demonstration of using a pressure cooker.  Each participant will take home a Ball Blue Canning Guide and a jar of canned produce.

If interested in attending the “Canning Workshop”, secure your spot by calling the OSU Extension Center at 405-713-1125.  Class size is limited and registration extended deadline is April 11th, 2017.  Feel free to bring a snack or sack lunch for down times.
