Camp Counselors & Staff

4-H CAMP COUNSELORS AND STAFF

Noble, Canadian & Oklahoma County Jr. 4-H Summer Camp will be May 28-May 31 located at Saints Grove Campgrounds east of Stillwater on highway 51. We will have approximately 20 leadership positions available for 4-H’ers at camp.  Everyone in a leadership position will be involved in the planning of camp, including theme selection and program design.  Camp Staff & Counselors will arrive at camp on May 28nd to set up the campground & Campers arrive the same day around 5:00 p.m.  Determine which of the following you would like to apply for and return the application by April 4, 2019. Indicate on the application in what role(s) you are interested in serving. 
 

Qualifications for Camp Staff and Counselors:

  • Must be at least 14 years of age
  • Must be an enrolled 4-H member as of 1/1/19

Applications will be reviewed closely.  Be descriptive in answering questions.  Interviews will be required of applicants.

 4-H Camp Staff (Approximately 3-4 selected)

4-H’ers chosen as staff members will attend the full week of camp.  They will be responsible for the running of camp.  Areas that they will be responsible for include:  Campground Maintenance, Kitchen Duty, Craft Corner, and General DutiesRequired mandatory attendance at the Planning Meeting and interviews– no make-up trainings or interviews will be offered.  Please notify us if you have a conflict with the April 20th date and school sports/academic teams, accommodations may be able to be made for these reasons only.

Responsibilities:

  • Camp Ground Maintenance – On the day you have campground maintenance you will be responsible for making sure the bathrooms are cleaned and trash is picked up.
  • Kitchen Duty –On the day you have kitchen duty your main responsibility will be in the kitchen helping with preparation of meals, snacks, etc. Your supervisor will be the camp cook.
  • Craft Corner – On the day you have craft duty you will report to the craft area whenever it is open and when the adult volunteer needs your help.  Your supervisor will be the adult volunteer in charge of crafts.
  • General Duties – Be observant!  Are things running smoothly? Does someone need assistance? Does something need to be done?  You are part of the team designed to make camp fun, safe and a positive experience for everyone!!!

4-H’ers selected as camp counselors will attend the full week of camp.  They will be responsible for the campers in their cabins and at all camp functions.  They will be the leaders during camp competitions, and most importantly, these individuals will be responsible for making sure all the 4-H campers have the time of their life.  Required mandatory attendance at both the Planning Meeting, Interviews and Camp Training – no make-up trainings or interviews will be offered.  Please notify us if you have a conflict with the April 20th date and school sports/academic teams, accommodations may be able to be made for these reasons only.

Responsibilities:

  • Getting Acquainted – Orientation and get acquainted activities with campers.  Covering the camp rules, the schedule and helping campers get settled in the cabins.
  • Daily Routine – Observing the campers to make sure they are eating well, taking care of their personal hygiene, resting, staying hydrated, and participating in scheduled activities.
  • Involvement – Working with campers to help them stay on schedule and engaged in activities.  Helping campers handle conflicts, home-sickness, and relationships with other campers.
