4-H Bright Minds Food Innovation Contest

Oklahoma 4-H, the Department of Animal & Food Sciences and the Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center are excited to launch the Bright Minds Food Innovation Contest for Oklahoma 4-H members.  The Bright Minds Food Innovation Contest is designed to provide club members with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the food industry, as well as learn more about food related career options.

Have you ever wanted to drink a glass of milk with a straw made out of cookies? How about an edible spoon to eat ice cream? Oklahoma 4-H’ers who like to experiment with food have the opportunity to expand on their creativity by developing a new food or beverage product. The contest encompasses marketing, packaging, presentation skills, food labeling, safety, storage and working with a mentor.  This contest will provide youth with an opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation for the many aspects of the food industry. 4-H members can use skills they’ve developed through 4-H, including problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork. Please share this information with members and encourage them to use their imagination and think outside of the box.

Teams and individuals may enter the contest, which is open to all 4-H’ers who are high school freshmen through seniors. Counties will set their own deadlines for proposals and each county may submit up to two proposals to the State 4-H Office by Jan. 31, 2020. From there, the top five entries from across the state will be selected to advance to the next level of competition.  Contest details can be found in the attached Contest Guidelines document.
