Pasture Management & Plant ID 2009

On the SqUare With Jeff Dill August 10, 2009

Welcome back to the square.  The Greer County OSU Extension Service will be offering a Pasture Management and Plant Identification Program on Tuesday, August 18, 2009.  We will begin the program for a 7:00 a.m. breakfast at the extension office on the East side of the square.  Following presentation from Area Extension Agronomy Specialist, Mark Gregory and County Extension Agriculture Educator, Jeff Dill, the group will move to a local pasture.

The topics to be covered include; fertility of Southwest Oklahoma pastures, herbicide use and weed control, plant identification, and multiple use or multiple specie grazing systems.  Come out for breakfast and some good discussion.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Also, Friday, August 14th, 4-H has the pool at Granite reserved for a 4-H signup party.  This is a great opportunity to sign your kids up for the upcoming 4-H year and enjoy the swimming.  There will also be an opportunity in Mangum on  the 18th of August at Edison Elementary for members to renew their membership and enjoy the pizza party.

Swine exhibitors should remember to obtain their premise ID numbers from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture (ODA) early.  Oklahoma has made premise ID a mandatory program for youth swine exhibitors.  You can find the information on the ODA’s website.

It’s getting close to fair time.  If you haven’t started those projects, it’s definitely time to get those exhibits ready.  This is the 100th anniversary of the Greer County Fair and we want it to be a grand celebration.  Your participation will be needed.  Saturday’s events have been moved to the evening so many of you can come and enjoy the festivities.  We hope you will join us there.

I hope you have enjoyed our visit this week and I’ll see you next week or most any other day On the SqUare.  The Greer County Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service offers its programs to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age or disability and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
