Grady County Extension to Host CAREGIVING 101

Kristopher Struckmeyer, graduate research associate, College of Human Sciences, Oklahoma State University.

CHICKASHA, Okla. -     Even though millions of family members provide some form of care for a family member, over 80% say they do not have enough information to successfully take care of someone. The Grady County Extension Service will be hosting a presentation entitled Caregiving 101 on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Community Building on the Grady County Fairgrounds in Chickasha.  Kristopher Struckmeyer, a graduate research associate from the College of Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University will serve as the guest speaker.  Mr. Struckmeyer serves as a member of the Caregiving Education Team at Oklahoma State University.  This presentation will also serve as a group leader training for Oklahoma Home and Community Education, otherwise known as OHCE, in Grady County.

The program is a statewide initiative by Oklahoma State University’s Caregiving Education Team to provide education to family caregivers to help them keep their loved ones healthy and safe at home.  The Caregiving Education initiative is funded by a grant from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture through the United States Department of Agriculture.  Its purpose is to help lower hospital readmission rates by educating family caregivers on caregiving topics.

Once family caregivers complete Caregiving 101, they will be provided with the option of taking a course on how to perform basic health care tasks which is offered through a partnership with the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative.

Caregiving 101 is open to the public.  To register for this free program, please contact the Grady County Extension office at 224-2216.  We are located at 828 W. Choctaw in Chickasha.
