Becoming a Master Gardener
The Master Gardener Program is designed to provide education and technical training to persons interested in plants and how they grow. Requirements include attending the Master Gardener classes, which consist of approximately 56 hours of training from OSU State and County Horticulture Specialists.followed by 60 hours of
After completing the Master Gardener classes, you must complete 60 hours of service to become a certified. Service hours are supervised by the Cleveland County OSU Extension Service office and include 48 hours at the Master Gardener desk and 12 hours working in the Demonstration and Teaching Garden. Each spring the trainees begin work in the extension office answering general lawn and garden questions for the public. This training is a wonderful way to learn and share knowledge with the community. A new class begins in the Fall of each year.
Once you become certified, you may choose to join the Cleveland County Master Gardener Association. To stay active, we requre you to pay dues, which are $10/year, and complete 20 Continuing Education hours and 20 Service hours.
