Nov 18, 2017 Make-It-Yourself With Wool Contest (Woodward, from Nov 18, 2017 08:00 AM to Nov 18, 2017 12:00 PM)
Each participant must make a garment of at least 60% wool and model it in the contest in Woodward on November 18th. Age categories as of January 1st of the current year: Pre-Teen (12 & Under); Junior (13-16); and Senior (17-24). Entry Fee is $12.00 per garment entered plus an $8.00 Fabric Test Fee for each entry. Entries must be postmarked by September 15th to Ellis County Extension. Entry forms available by calling the Woodward Co Extension Office at 580-254-3391. Complete details available online at:

Beaver County Shooting Sports club will meet on November 16th at 6:00pm at the Beaver Fairgrounds for Archery and Air Rifle/Pistol practices.

Red Wheel Fundraiser started October 1st and ran through October 24th. All monies and forms are due in the Extension Office by Wed, October 25th. All orders will be prepacked by seller. Red Wheel delivery is Thurs, November 16th at 3:00pm at the courthouse. If you cannot be at the courthouse by 3:30pm to pick up your order, please have someone who can. We do not have a freezer for storage.

The Trophy Auction will be held on November 13th at the Beaver Fairgrounds at 6:30pm. Funds raised from this auction will go towards premiums for the Beaver County Junior Livestock Show to be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Beaver County Fairgrounds.

The 4-H Speech Contest will start at 5:00pm in the Extension Conference Room on Tues, November 7th. All participants must be registered no later than 6:00pm. Divisions as of September 1, 2017 are: Junior—3rd (8 yrs old), 4th & 5th Grades; Intermediate—6th-8th Grades; and Senior—9th-12th Grades. All participants are encourage to pre-register by Friday, November 3rd. Categories Prepared Public Speaking—A 4-H talk/regular speech is one means of sharing information and educating an audience about a specific subject. It is an oral presentation in which the member does not rely on posters/illustrations or objects. All illustrations are communicated through descriptions used in the speech. Basically, the 4-H member paints a picture or tells a story through oral communication. There are no props/posters/notecards/costumes in a speech. Time lengths for speeches are: Junior—3-5 minutes, Intermediate—4-6 minutes, and Senior—5-7 minutes. Illustrated Talk—A 4-H illustrated talk is another means of sharing information and educating an audience about a specific subject. It is an oral presentation in which the member uses posters/illustrations or objects to emphasize/illustrate specific points in the speech. A member does not actually make or demonstrate how to do something in an illustrated talk. No PPT presentations/slides in this division. Time lengths for Illustrated Presentations are: Junior—3-5 minutes, Intermediate—5-12 minutes, and Senior—5-12 minutes. PowerPoint Presentation— See illustrated talk definition. The primary differences are that PPT slides replace posters and the presenter is demonstrating the skills they have mastered when integrating technology into a speech/presentation. Members will be evaluated on their ability to design and create the PPT slides which complement the oral content of the presentation. The PPT should not be the “presentation.” Time lengths for PowerPoints are: Junior—3-5 minutes, Intermediate—5-7 minutes, and Senior—5-7 minutes. Impromptu—Will draw a topic and will have a few minutes to prepare a speech on the topic provided. Video Presentation—The 4-H Video Contest is a separate contest from the 4-H Speech Contest. Videos are due to the Extension Office by Tuesday, October 31st and will be judged on Friday, November 3rd. Ribbons for the Video Presentation Contest will be presented at the same time as the ribbons for the 4-H Speech Contest on Tues, November 7th. Video submissions will be judged based on the following criteria: Content –25% (Script, creativity & coherence); Quality of Production—25% (Visual aesthetics, cinematography, & adherence to time limit); Technical Skill—25% (Camera operation & video editing); and Final Product—25% (Cohesiveness; overall creativity, accuracy of information & video quality). Time lengths for Video Presentations are: Junior—3-5 minutes, Intermediate—5-7 minutes, and Senior—5-7 minutes. 2017-18 Beaver County 4-H Officers are requested to be in attendance to help with contest registration and awards presentation.

Youth showing livestock beyond Beaver County must nominate their livestock by the following dates: November 7, 2017—Goats, Sheep & Cattle December 7, 2017—Swine It is each individual’s responsibility in pursuing their own kits and nominating. FFA instructors have been willing to pick up kits and help with the nominating process in the past. Please contact your FFA instructor and ask if they would be willing to pick up your kits and help you with this process.

Must Pre-Register. A Co-Parenting Class will be held on Thursday, September 21st from 9:00am-12:00noon. How parents handle the divorce can make it better or worse for their children. Co-Parenting for Resilience is a program to help divorcing parents instill resilience in their children. Because divorce can cause numerous problems for children, many Oklahoma judges are requiring divorcing parents to attend a co-parenting workshop before their divorce will be granted. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate to present to their judge. Co-Parenting for Resilience is a 4 hour class designed to help parents: Learn how to keep their children out of the middle of their divorce; Recognize problems that their children may experience; Discover ways to change their own behaviors to help children adjust and overcome the challenges of divorce. Registration is $35.00. Contact the Beaver County Extension for details or to pre-register at least 3 business days prior to the class.

The county fair Horse Show will be held at the Beaver Fairgrounds April 30th. There will not be a fall Horse Show during the Beaver County Free Fair in September. This Horse Show will be open to all Beaver County residents, free of charge, with payout premiums of $10, $8, and $6 per class. It will also be an Open Horse Show and open to non-county residents. Beaver County residents have the option of entering as a resident free of charge and in open with a $5/class with 80% Open Class payback. If residents enter as a resident and in open, they can receive both resident and open premiums for each class entered. There will be 17 classes with four age divisions offered: 8 & under; 9-13; 14-18; and 19 & over. The Horse Show will start with registration at 8:00am and Show at 9:00am. Pre-entries will be due April 22nd to the Beaver County Extension Office.
